Master of Photography
Introduction
Welcome to the 2021 MA photography exhibition. The work within reflects the climate under which the work was produced and, in some cases, responses to it. COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdowns asked all of us to live, think and see differently. Locked indoors, shielding or with limited resource, the PhotoUCLan MA students work and ideas reflect different ways of seeing, narrating and even imagining everyday situations though documentary practice, still life photography and performative visual practices that combine, moving image, text and sound. While some students look to their immediate environment, seeking nurture from nature other students explore how an otherwise universal object, such as a lipstick, can be invested with agency and emotion through repeated, longitudinal engagement.
