About me

Hannah Blackman-Kurz is an illustrator based in Liverpool. Her practice encourages play and experimentation allowing an intuitive approach to guide each project. She enjoys creating worlds where sensitivity is at the heart of the characters allowing people to see themselves and the life of others. She is interested in local history, place, and human connection.

Hannah enjoys telling stories through the layers of her image-making which require a limited colour palette and subtle alchemy.

After finishing the MA, she wants to continue to develop her practice in printmaking and work on a series of shorter projects based on mental health.

The Light Keeper - This self-initiated project was developed over the course of the MA. It is an intergenerational story following the life of female lighthouse keepers based on historic figures Ida Lewis and Grace Darling. The text has been adapted from old sea shanties and songs as they were often the beginnings of tales from the sea. Moon Mouse by Corrinne Averiss – Submission entry for this year’s Carmelite competition. One and Only by Jeanne Willis – Shortlisted for the Carmelite competition in 2020.
