About me

My name is Eleanor MacMillan, also known as Effy.

During my studies, I have rediscovered my passion for graphite pencils and traditional ways of working. With my art, I seek to convey moods and a sense of feeling which may not translate into words. My focus is on creating talking points so like-minded individuals can come together – in a world where it is so easy to isolate yourself, and where important topics are left ignored.

A proud accomplishment I achieved during my studies was the chance to help paint a mural at a local youth and homeless shelter, as this deeply reflects how I want my art to also help others.

After graduation, I plan to further my knowledge with a Fine Art Masters, and begin building a community through my art for people seeking help in a social and non-clinical way.

The projects in my portfolio showcase my graphite pencil skills which have been key in developing my work. The first project featured is 'Seeking to Understand', a mental health zine which has been entered into the Creative Conscience Awards, and looks at how mental health makes young people feel using minimal words. My other project is a textile/mural design featuring endangered plants and animals in the UK, and aims to generate awareness for conservation and the National Trust Charity. As well as using graphite pencil shading, this piece is also digitally coloured in Photoshop.
